It’s a lyrically short song, and a new direction for us as band. I didn’t play any guitar on the song at all (although I did record the bass track on ’69 Jazz Bass through the ACME Motown DI box). Dan came up with a GREAT guitar part on his Les Paul Deluxe and Hector just instantly found the groove. I also got to get my son, McCoy and video collaborator, Harold, in on the action in the horn section. I actually came up with the horn charts over the period of a week during COVID isolation where I was walking through the woods 4 miles everyday (so that I didn’t go crazy at home!). I’d listen to what we had recorded over and over again on the walk, singing the horn parts in my head, until I felt they were where they needed to be. I then had my son, McCoy, write out the parts as charts for him and Harold so we could record them. As far as the lyrics go- Everyone gets frustrated in life, and we all have different coping mechanisms for getting through a day. Sometimes those mechanisms are self destructive or massively depressing. The point is to live, and to chase whatever dream you have. Some days you chase it, some days you live it-we’re all kind of the same-livin’ the dream!
lyrics
50 shades of whatever, I can tell that you just don’t care.
Trying to find the genie a bottle? Guess what? There’s nothing there!
We all grind our way through the day to day routine, trying to find a way to start livin’ the dream.
Livin’ the dream!
Every day 9 to 5 sucks the life out of your sould.
The dead end world makes you feel like you got no self control
We all grind our way through the day to day routine, trying to find a way to start livin’ the dream.
Livin’ the dream!

So many great songs, so much great playing. Tavern at the End of the World is just one song, this is an album you must listen to and experience all the way through. Rob Moss

Like most songs on the album this song shifts between two distinct modes that work great separately, but when they combine, they become Voltron and are unstoppable! bradykoch
